The UK has a long history of supporting LGBT+ people, and Pride is a great way to celebrate that.
In the 1960s, there was a lot of discrimination against LGBT+ people in the UK. This is when the Gay Liberation Front was created. They were one of the first organizations to fight for LGBT+ rights and they fought against homophobia, transphobia, and biphobia. In 1994, Section 28 was introduced into law by Margaret Thatcher’s Conservative government which prevented schools from “promoting” homosexuality or transgenderism as an acceptable lifestyle choice. In 2003, Section 28 was abolished by Tony Blair’s Labour government.
